Family recipe
Ingredients:
· 2 1/2 Tbsp lentil |
· 1/2 cup young lima bean |
· 2 Tbsp black-eye bean |
· 2 Tbsp kidney-bean |
· 2 Tbsp split peas |
· 2 Tbsp black bean |
· 1/2 cup small spotted bean |
· 1/2 cup navy bean |
· 2 Tbsp salt |
· 20 - 30 dkg (about 7 - 10 OZ) gammon, |
· 2,3 l water |
· 1 large onion, chopped |
· 1 large canned tomato |
· 1 tsp chilli powder |
· 1 clove garlic, crushed |
· 2 - 3 Tbsp lemon juice |
· salt and pepper to taste |
Soak the beans and the lentils in salted water overnight. Drain at the morning. Put them into a big pot. Add the 2,3 litres water, the gammon, onion, tomatoes, chili-powder, garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Simmer on reduced heat for about 4 hours. In some countries this mix of beans are sold ready to use.
PS: You can stir in a big tablespoon of sour cream into each bowl just before serving it.
